The protagonist, Ruth and her parents will survive the Holocaust. This story shows some of the humanity of some of the Nazi soldiers. In addition, it shows resilience of Jewish people in the darkest times.� It also explains how Ruth's father, like many Jews, had previously fought for the Germans in the First World War.
